Can't I talk about something else?

Okay, enough with the Baby Davis drama. While I said that I was going to discuss infertility back at the begininng of the month, what I neglected to mention was that I might discuss it a lot. You'll have to forgive me, though, as it really is the subject living in the forefront of my mind these days.

In an effort to remain true to my blog title, I think I'll talk about another grown up subject today. Drumroll please...I bought a new car! Actually a used car, but new to me--you get what I mean. Since I was offered my new job earlier this month, DH and I have been searching online for what would become our bigger and better ride (no offense to the 'Rolla sitting in our garage). I've mostly had company-provided vehicles for the past eight years, with an eight month stint driving said 'Rolla. So I was very excited at the prospect of picking out a car with exactly what I wanted and hoping we could afford it.

We've always been fans of the Japanese brands, mostly because of the good gas mileage and the fact that they retain their value. I knew that we were already decided on a small to mid-size SUV, so we started by looking at the RAV-4 and the Highlander out of respect for our 'Rolla. Consumer Reports supported our position and recommended the RAV-4 & the Highlander and also the CR-V & the Pilot. The Toyotas were both okay, but I wasn't crazy about either. The thing is I wanted the newest model I could get, with as many bells and whistles as I could have, for the lowest price I could find. I also wanted to make sure I found the newest body style, simply out of vanity. Who wants a car that looks old? It was proving difficult to find a previously-owned, tricked-out, low-mileage, new body style RAV-4 or Highlander that was down in our price range. Guess everyone who owns one likes it enough to keep it.

I then started looking at the CR-V & the Pilot, made by Honda. My friend H. had just purchased a Certified Pilot and really loved it. It was a great value for all it came with, and Consumer Reports recommeded it as a great choice. I started by test driving a 2007 CR-V EX-L that came with EVERYTHING, including a navigation system. It was very nice. The down side was that the previous owner had put 28K miles on it in ONE YEAR. And for the price, we could have just paid a few thousand more and had a brand new one. I then drove a 2004 Pilot EX-L. It had leather, heated seats, and a DVD system. Very nice. Miles were good for an '04, and the price was very good. Honestly, I was having a tough time.

I went to one other dealership to see a 2004 Pilot EX-L and of course, they had already sold it. But the very nice salesman told me they would be receiving a 2005 Pilot EX-L off a lease trade-in later that day, would I be interested? I said I'd like to see it, sure. The price was great, but the miles seemed a bit high at 40K. At least more than we'd been looking at. When I went back the next day to drive it, I loved it right away. It was in better condition than the 2004 and even better it had more bells and whistles. While there was no navigation system, there was a sunroof. Perfectly good trade if you ask me. I took DH the next day to drive it and we played "let's negotiate" for about 10 minutes. It was such a good deal there was little room to argue. We bought it Thursday and I picked it up yesterday after it came back from being detailed. I LOVE IT! It is going to make driving for my new job so enjoyable. I can't wait to get to work...

Boy, I have not said that in a very long time.
